Game jams and Game lectures

A couple of weeks back, I was asked to do a series of workshops at the Media Design School here in Auckland, with introductory level topics about the theory and application of game design. I have presented one lecture about Game design Theory VS practice under the title applied game design 2 weeks a go and had a blast doing it!

There were 64 students that attended this lecture and the feedback was really good, I was touched by the comments the students have left on the survey, thank you guys for being awesome and for listening.

Part of the feedback survey

The feedback was good enough that another one is scheduled in the upcoming month or two. If you’re in the Auckland area and feel like listening to me ramble about game design for an hour or so don’t be a stranger.

Another exciting thing that’s been going on, is that I was asked to be on the judging panel of MENA region wide game jam called game zanga organized by non other than Gametako

The Zanga backed up by a lot of heavy hitters for sponsors such as Sony, Unity and N2V is a gamejam event in which participants have to develop a game in a limited time frame fitting a common theme, this year’s theme being “Lost”.

As part of being in the judging panel I had the honor of playing all game submissions – all 60+ of them – and give them a rating based on several preset criteria.

I wish all the participants the best of luck, there were some real awesome games there, and a special shout-out to gametako for putting this together! Can’t wait for the announcements tomorrow.
