As I arrived in the breathtaking setting of Lake Como, Italy, for D.I.C.E. 2024, I felt a surge of excitement. This year’s event was all about rethinking the creative process in game development—something that’s close to my heart.
My session “Demystifying Creativity in Games” tackled questions that every creator faces: What drives us to think outside the box? Where do fresh ideas come from? And how can we even begin to measure originality? Drawing on psychology, neuroscience, and my own experiences in game design, I explored the intricate process of how new ideas take shape and what it takes to bring them to life in a way that feels truly unique. We talked about the importance of understanding the mechanics behind creativity to help teams feel confident in taking risks, leading to games that break boundaries and leave a lasting mark.
Events like D.I.C.E. aren’t just platforms for showcasing the latest projects; they’re spaces where we come together to challenge our thinking, exchange insights, and spark new ideas that shape the future of gaming. As I leave Lake Como, I feel recharged and ready to take on new challenges, with a renewed sense of inspiration and a deeper appreciation for the vibrant community that surrounds the gaming industry.
